A quirky play by Fringe First winner Skye Loneragan, presented as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.
Kitchen Dancer runs at Assembly Roxy from Wednesday 28 October to Saturday 31 October, a quirky play written and performed by Fringe First winner Skye Loneragan. It's staged by the company Scissor Kick and presented as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.
Loneragan, who comes to the show from Australia, plays SkyeC, a Registered Kitchen Dancer chosen to represent Scotland in a brand-new Olympic category called 'Coping Strategies'. The action unfolds as she attempts to show a film crew around her cramped flat, a premise that pushes the piece into live performance territory. It's a ridiculously conceived and deliciously quirky setup, and Loneragan handles both the writing and the performing herself.
This sits alongside her wider body of work exploring what she calls 'mental-health-wealth', which includes the Fringe First winner Cracked and shows like Staying Awake for You, Though This Be Madness and May Contain Nuts. The Scotsman has called her 'a gifted and engaging performer', while Mish Gorecki of The Herald described the work as 'genuinely life-affirming and hilarious'.
