Weekly Thursday guided looking session with audio describer Fiona Johnston on images from 'The Edwardians: Age of Elegance'.
The King's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse is running a guided looking session on Thursday 29 October, led by audio describer Fiona Johnston. It's part of a weekly series that runs every Thursday, so if this date doesn't work, there's another one the week after.
Johnston will be working through images from the current exhibition, The Edwardians: Age of Elegance, which runs from 24 April to 6 December 2026. The show looks at the opulence and glamour of the Edwardian era—the years between the Victorian age and the First World War—through the lives and tastes of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and later King George V and Queen Mary. The Gallery itself draws from the Royal Collection, so you'll find old master paintings, rare furniture, decorative arts and images from the Trust's photograph collection.
If you're not in the mood for a guided session, there's a free multimedia tour you can take on your own, though guided tours aren't allowed. The Gallery shop stocks gifts inspired by the royal palaces and the Royal Collection, and the Café at the Palace serves home-made dishes from locally sourced produce. The space was renamed The King's Gallery in December 2023, having previously been known as The Queen's Galleries.
