Evening presentation of the ninth edition of 'The World Atlas of Wine' by Master of Wine Julia Harding, with wines from The Wine Society.
Julia Harding is coming to The Royal Scots Club on Thursday 29 October, and the evening is all about the ninth edition of The World Atlas of Wine. Since its first edition appeared in 1971, it's been reckoned by critics as the single most important wine reference book in the world, and this latest version has been updated since 2019 with 18 brand-new maps and a text overhaul that takes in the issues of interest to today's growers and drinkers, including the impact of climate change and global sustainability initiatives.
Julia Harding is a Master of Wine and has been Jancis Robinson's senior editor at JancisRobinson.com for more than 20 years. She's edited the Atlas's maps since the seventh edition and co-authored Wine Grapes (2012), so she knows the inside of this book better than almost anyone. The wines poured on the night have been chosen by Harding to showcase the new edition, and they're supplied by The Wine Society.
The venue is The Royal Scots Club, a historic private members' club founded in 1919 at 29-31 Abercromby Place. It's a proper Edinburgh spot, and the evening is built around the book, the maps, and the wines that bring them to life. If you've got a copy of the Atlas on your shelf, this is a good chance to hear from one of the people who actually put it together.
