Glasgow singer-songwriter Jo Mango performs songs from a new EP inspired by Nabokov's imagery for the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.
Jo Mango plays the Red Lecture Theatre at Summerhall on Thursday 22 October, as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. Mango is a Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, and she was one of six artists commissioned by the festival for its 2026 edition.
The set debuts songs from a new EP written specifically for the festival. The material takes its imagery from Nabokov, and from there it works its way into how past trauma can get in the way of how we see the future, the past, and our current selves. It's the kind of thing that asks a fair bit of you as a listener, so it's worth knowing what's driving the songs before you sit down.
The performance runs alongside Reflect, Reclaim, Reimagine, an exhibition of the festival's artist commissions at Summerhall, so if you've got the time, you can see the other commissions around the venue before or after. The 2026 festival runs from 19 October to 8 November, marking the organisation's 20th year, and it's built around the theme 'Reflections'.
