Intermediate sewing class to learn fitting a zip and lining a wash bag, for those who have mastered the basics of a sewing machine.
The Edinburgh Sewcial Club is running an Intermediate Sewing Class on Tuesday 3 November, from 10:30 at their studio in St Margaret's House, 151 London Road. It's a one-day session that takes you from the basics to something you can actually use: a zipped and lined wash bag.
This one is for people who've already got the fundamentals down. If you're comfortable winding the bobbin, threading the machine, and controlling your speed and direction, you're in the right place. The class builds on that, teaching you how to fit a zip and a lining, and the precision needed to cut and sew a smaller item. Once you've got that sorted, you're ready to move on to the dressmaking class and start making your own clothes.
The club itself has been around since 2014, starting out in Meadowbank and growing into a women-owned hub that teaches garment making, pattern cutting, embroidery and other textile crafts to people of all ages and abilities. They keep the classes small, which means you get plenty of one-to-one time with the tutor rather than just watching from the back. The studio is fully equipped with machines and shears, so you don't need to bring your own, and they provide tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going through the morning.
