Free exhibition at Colinton Arts Gallery by two local artists, David Short and Susie Collingbourne, from still life to Scottish landscapes.
Inside & Out opens at Colinton Arts Gallery on Thursday 29 October, running through to 3 December. It's a double bill bringing together two local artists, David Short and Susie Collingbourne, whose work sits at opposite ends of the same conversation.
Short looks inwards. His pieces draw from still life, flowers and the everyday objects that surround us — the kind of things you might overlook in your own living room until you see them framed and given their own space. Collingbourne looks outwards, her focus on the Scottish landscape, wild coastlines and the ever-changing atmosphere of the outdoors. One works with the domestic interior, the other with the open air.
Despite those opposite starting points, they share a love of colour, light and the stories found in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. The show moves from one to the other, from the quiet of the home to the scale of the Scottish countryside, and seeing them together lets you trace that line between the two. It's a good way to see how two different ways of looking at the world can still find common ground.
