An entirely improvised contemporary dance piece with voice and movement across two solos and a duet, shaped by the audience.
Bethany Edwards and Tess Letham bring Three Acts to Summerhall on Saturday 7 November, as part of the Innovations Dance Platform. It's an entirely improvised piece of dance that works its way through two solos and a duet, with the two of them taking turns in the spotlight before coming together.
The thing that sets it apart is how much the room gets to weigh in. The audience's input shapes the dance, the text and the characters in real time, and because the performers work interactively with the room, no two shows end up the same. The material turns on a sixpence, swinging through dark, funny, touching and surreal moments, so what starts in one place might end up somewhere completely different by the time the duet rolls around.
It's not just about the movement, either. The piece weaves improvised voice and movement across contemporary dance, comedy, physical theatre and storytelling, so there's as much to listen to as there is to watch. It's staged as part of the Innovations Dance Platform at Summerhall, and it's recommended for ages 16+ as it may contain strong language.
