Scottish alternative rock band Idlewild play the Usher Hall for a special 30th anniversary show, marking three decades since their first live show.
Idlewild are back at Usher Hall on Friday 18 December, a show that marks their 30th anniversary. It's a homecoming of sorts: the date takes them back to January 1996, when they played their first ever live show at Edinburgh's Subway Club. In the three decades since, they've released ten studio albums, the most recent being the self-titled Idlewild, which came out in October 2025 and reached number 16 in the UK Album Charts.
Frontman Roddy Woomble has said the band aren't 'massively nostalgic' about their live shows and prefer to focus on new and creative work. He noted that when they started out they never did cover versions and always worked on their own material, so the anniversary is less a look back and more a marker of where they are now. The line-up on the night will be Roddy Woomble, Joe Jones, Colin Newton, Andrew Mitchell and Luciano Rossi.

It's a long run of work to draw from. Along the way they've toured to mark the 20th anniversary of The Remote Part and played support for My Chemical Romance. This show is the first of two anniversary dates, with a second following at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on Saturday 19 December. If you're in Edinburgh, the Usher Hall date is the one to catch them on home turf.
