Ian Prowse brings his six-piece band Amsterdam to The Cabaret Voltaire for a live show, with support from Niamh Jones and Jarod Clemons.
Ian Prowse & Amsterdam play Cabaret Voltaire on Saturday 7 November, part of the No Names Tour. Prowse is a Merseyside guitarist and singer-songwriter, and Amsterdam is his full six-piece band. They're out on the road to celebrate their upcoming album, so the set will be built around the new material. Opening the night are Niamh Jones and Jarod Clemons.
Prowse has been at this for thirty years. Before Amsterdam, he fronted the indie cult band Pele, and among his fans he's known as the 'Scouse Springsteen' — a nod to the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen, Paul Weller, Mike Scott and Elvis Costello, all of whom he cites as influences. He grew up on protest songs and the Celtic sounds that make Liverpool's music its own, and that background still sits close to the surface of his work. One of his better-known tracks is 'Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?', which John Peel once played live on air. Amsterdam have also crossed paths with Elvis Costello, duetting with him on 'Don't Throw Your Love Away'.
