Horse McDonald returns to The Queen's Hall with favourites from her back catalogue and new songs from her upcoming album.
Horse is back at The Queen's Hall on Friday 13 November, performing as Horse (Band and Strings). It's an annual visit to one of her favourite venues, and the set is a bit of a mix: she's bringing favourites from her back catalogue alongside new material fresh off the page and heading towards her next album. She describes the selection as a 'veritable choc box' of Horse songs, so you'll hear the older stuff and the new songs in the same evening.
Horse McDonald is a singer who writes songs that are at once devastating and uplifting; she's been described as someone who can 'touch the coldest heart with one note'. The 'Band and Strings' billing gives you a sense of the sound, with the strings running through the set rather than just appearing on a couple of tracks.
The Queen's Hall itself is a 900-capacity room on Clerk Street. It opened in 1823 as Hope Park Chapel and was converted into a concert hall in 1979, formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 6 July that year. These days it stages everything from classical and jazz to pop, rock, folk and comedy, and plays host to the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival during the summer months.
