Informal session to handle original archival materials from the King's Theatre, with free tea or coffee and stories about Edinburgh's cultural past.
The King's Theatre is hosting a Heritage Coffee Morning on Tuesday 27 October, and there's a second one on Tuesday 24 November. Both run from 11am for an hour and a half, and they're held in the Creative Engagement Space within the theatre.
It's an informal session run by the King's Theatre Heritage Engagement Team. The main draw is that you get to handle original archival materials from the theatre's own collection — things that usually stay tucked away in the archives. While you're going through them, there's complimentary tea and coffee on the table, and the whole point is to share personal memories of Edinburgh's cultural past. If you've got your own stories about the city's theatres, this is the kind of place to bring them out.
The mornings sit alongside The People's Archive, which is the broader project looking at the stories, people and performances that have shaped Edinburgh's theatres over the years. These sessions are separate from the paid Backstage Tours, so you won't be heading into the auditorium or the backstage areas — the focus here is on the archives and the conversation rather than the building itself.

It's all part of Capital Theatres' 'Take Part' / Creative Engagement programme, which is their wider offering for getting involved with theatre for fun, for community, to get closer to the shows or to pick up new creative skills. They also run an award-winning dementia-friendly programme as part of that work. The coffee mornings are free, though they are ticketed, so you'll need to book your spot in advance.
