Beginner to intermediate sewing workshop to make a patchwork cushion from vintage Harris Tweed, with all materials and refreshments included.
The Edinburgh Sewcial Club is running a Harris Tweed patchwork cushion workshop on Sunday 8 November, from 12:15 at their studio in St Margaret's House, 151 London Road. It's a one-day session where you make a cushion from vintage Harris Tweed, and the whole thing is run by the club, which keeps its class sizes small so there's plenty of one-to-one time with the tutor.
The tweed comes from old jackets and coats, so each piece of fabric keeps its own history, texture and character. The workshop is pitched at beginner to intermediate sewists—you should be comfortable using a sewing machine—and an experienced textile tutor walks you through professional patchwork piecing, accurate cushion construction and colour-selection techniques until you've an heirloom-quality cushion to take home. The studio provides the machines and shears, and there's tea, coffee and biscuits on hand throughout the day. If you find you've got the bug, you can also buy additional Harris Tweed sewing kits there to keep going at home.
