Over-18s night with Gichard, Canaan Balsam and Euan Currie at Home Bar in Edinburgh.
Gichard are playing Home Bar on Thursday 5 November, alongside Canaan Balsam and Euan Currie. The night is put on by Fuzz Bat Gigs, who frame their shows as safe and inclusive spaces, and it's strictly for over-18s.
The three acts bring very different sounds to the room. Gichard is a spoken word and post-punk duo pairing absurdist, witty poetry with radge punk rock, groovy bass, synths and pop hooks. Canaan Balsam works in dark ambient, drone and electronics, performing as a trio with spoken word, violin and bowed hand saw. Euan Currie is an ambient noise and drone connoisseur working with tape loops, samples and modular synths; he was formerly known as Dead Labour Process and is also of Muscletusk. Theo Cleary signed the poster.
Between the three, the evening moves from the drone and electronics of Balsam and Currie to the punk and poetry of Gichard, so it's a fair bit of ground to cover in one night. If you're familiar with any of them, it's a good chance to see them on the same bill; if not, it's a decent way to hear three quite different approaches to noise and spoken word back-to-back.
