Annual festive concert by the Edinburgh University Singers, conducted by Calum Robertson, with organist John Kitchen, featuring seasonal music and carols.
The Edinburgh University Singers are taking over the Usher Hall on Monday 7 December for the Get Organised choir and organ Christmas special. It's part of the annual series that pairs a choir with the organ for a festive programme, and this year's edition falls just before the main Christmas rush, so it works as a proper early-December afternoon out.
The singers are conducted by Calum Robertson, with John Kitchen on the organ. The repertoire mixes seasonal music for Advent and Christmas, pulling together old favourites and newer pieces, so there's a bit of both the familiar and the less-heard. It's not a strictly listening concert, either: the audience sings carols along with the performers throughout the afternoon, which changes the feel from a formal recital to something more like a community sing.
There's also a guest appearance by Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, who makes his way onto the stage during the show. Between the choir, the organ, and the audience joining in, it's a full-hall affair rather than a quiet one.
