Over-18s book launch and music evening celebrating Frankie Miller, with Stevie Agnew and Souled Out playing Frankie's songs.
Stevie Agnew and Souled Out are back at The Voodoo Rooms on Thursday 19 November, their second time bringing Frankie Miller's songs to the venue. It's a book launch and music evening, and it kicks off a three-show tour that takes them on to PJ Molloys in Dunfermline on Friday 20 November and Ivory Blacks in Glasgow on Sunday 22 November.
The night is built around the launch of Davy Arthur's new book, Incarcerated Ecstasy: The Frankie Miller Band at San Quentin. The music comes from Agnew and his eight-piece band, Souled Out, who'll be weaving together the songs, stories and spirit of Miller's work. It's a bigger show than the one Arthur put on here last year, which was hosted by Scott Wilson with the help of Nobby Clark, Rab Howat and their band of singers and musicians. That night drew such a response that Agnew emerged as one of the highlights, and he's the one taking the lead this time around.
If you're not familiar with the name, Frankie Miller was a Scottish singer with a voice that earned him a reputation across the Atlantic as much as at home. This evening is a celebration of his music and his legacy, and the book launch gives it a particular focus: the time his band played at San Quentin. It's the kind of night that works as well if you've followed Miller for years as it does if you've only just come across him.
