Hosted tasting pairing five whiskies from Nc'Nean Distillery with five Fierce beers, guided by Adam Murphy and Tamzin.
Fierce Beer is hosting a tasting showdown on Tuesday 17 November, pairing five of their beers with five drams from Nc'Nean Distillery. It's a hosted evening run by Adam Murphy and Tamzin, who'll walk you through the Nc'Nean range as you work your way through the pairings. Nc'Nean is an organic producer, and that's the thread that runs through the whole night.
Among the five whiskies is the Nc'Nean Flagship, an organic single malt with notes of lemon posset, peach, apricot and spiced rye bread, matured in red wine, American whiskey and sherry casks. Beside it sits the Cask Strength, the distillery's signature organic recipe in its most robust form. Then there's Quiet Rebel Simon, finished in stout casks that previously held Nc'Nean whisky and made with Innis & Gunn; Malted Teacake, the fifth release in the experimental Huntress series, brewed with a Belgian-style ale yeast; and Quiet Rebel Matthew, matured in 24-month-old Manzanilla hogsheads. Each one gets its own Fierce beer to go with it.
It's a guided session rather than a free-for-all, so you'll get the story behind the distillery as you go. The pairing format means you're tasting the whiskies and the beers side by side, rather than one after the other. If you're more of a beer person than a whisky person, or vice versa, it's a decent way to try both in one sitting.
