Free exhibition by textile and pattern designer Leigh Bagley of hand-cut paper compositions and digitally constructed prints exploring colour, geometry and the circle.
Leigh Bagley brings Colour Systems to Upright Gallery from 30 October to 20 November, with a preview evening on 29 October from 18:00 to 20:00. The exhibition is free, and the gallery is at 3 Barclay Terrace in Bruntsfield.
Colour Systems looks at how colour can be organised, disrupted and reimagined through geometry, repetition and collage. Bagley works between hand-cut paper compositions and digitally constructed prints, and the circle becomes a recurring language across the show, measuring the relationships between colour, proportion and form. Drawing on modernist design and the Bauhaus tradition, the work investigates transparency, overlap and optical relationships, and asks you to experience colour rather than simply observe it.
Bagley is a textile and pattern designer known for his bold use of colour, geometric form and contemporary abstraction. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2000 and set up his own studio in 2012. Since then, he's collaborated internationally with clients like Newmor Wallcoverings and Robin Sprong, created 21 Artwalls for NHS Forth Valley's Bellfield Centre in Stirling, and lectures at the Glasgow School of Art.
