Annual Christmas wine tasting gathering with guided tastings and producer meet-ups at historic Surgeons Hall.
The Edinburgh Winter Tasting returns to Surgeons Hall on Wednesday 11 November, starting at 18:00. It's an annual Christmas celebration that turns a tasting into an intimate winter gathering, and this year it's back in the same spot on Nicolson Street.
The format is straightforward: you work your way through an extensive wine portfolio, tasting your way across the room. The real draw, though, is that the producers who craft the vintages are there behind the scenes, so you can actually talk to the people who made what's in your glass. It's a good way to get a bit of the story behind the wine without having to go digging for it yourself.
That side of things works for everyone from novices to seasoned enthusiasts. If you're not sure where to start, there are guided tastings led by knowledgeable hosts to help you find your bearings. If you've already got a few favourites, you can just stick to the ones that catch your eye. The whole thing takes place within the historic setting of Surgeons Hall, which gives the evening a bit more character than a standard tasting room.
