Nottingham alternative metal band Earthtone9 play The Mash House on Guthrie Street.
Earthtone9 are back in Scotland for a headline show at The Mash House on Friday 27 November. It's their first Edinburgh date in a long time, and they're playing as a headline act, so the night is built around them.
If you're coming to them fresh, they were an alternative metal band from Nottingham. For most of their run, the line-up was Karl Middleton on vocals, Owen 'Oz' Packard and Joe Roberts on guitar, Dave Anderson on bass and Simon Hutchby on drums, with Alex Baker taking over on drums for their final EP, Omega. They signed to Copro records in 1998, and their first major release was lo def(inition) discord, a collection of re-recorded songs from their two demos plus a few new tracks. It was put together on a budget of £500 and got positive reviews from Terrorizer, Metal Hammer and Kerrang!.
That was followed in 1999 by Off-Kilter Enhancement, the record that really pinned down the classic et9 sound: a harsh metal inspired by Helmet and Neurosis mixed with softer moments, Tool-esque dynamics and enigmatic titles like 'Moe-ra (t-talk)'. After bassist Graeme Watts left, they put out their final album arc'tan'gent, which the band described as the first record they were truly happy with. They announced their split in early 2002, and in 2004 hi-point (rem) came out — a remastered version of their 2000 first EP.
