Talk by Dr Naomi Haynes of the University of Edinburgh on the global rise of Christian nationalism, moderated by Dr Moyukh Chatterjee.
Dr Naomi Haynes is speaking at Augustine United Church on Friday 23 October, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. She's a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, and the talk is titled The Global Rise of Christian Nationalism.
Haynes frames the global rise of Christian nationalism through the case history of Africa's only 'Christian nation', and from there she considers what it means for the world today. It's a specific way into a broad subject: starting with one country's experience to make sense of a trend that's playing out across different borders.
The evening is part of The Albertus Institute's 2026/7 theme, Challenges to the Future of Humanity, which asks how politics meets religion and how technology and AI affect our sense of self. The Albertus Institute is an Edinburgh-based forum that promotes public discussion of topical issues, and this talk sits right at the intersection of those two questions. Dr Moyukh Chatterjee will moderate the session, and the format leaves time for questions and discussion alongside a drink.
