Dodie reimagine her second album live, with every song newly rescored for two clarinets.
Dodie plays The Queen's Hall on Saturday 24 October, with the show presented by Form Presents. It's a full run-through of her second album, Not For Lack of Trying, but not in the way you'd expect from a record she's already put out: every song has been newly rescored for two clarinets, and she's performing the whole thing live.
If you're not familiar with the name, Dodie is the stage name of Dorothy Clark, a singer-songwriter from Essex who started uploading music from her bedroom at 16. Since then, she's racked up more than 300 million streams across YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music, and has built a reputation as one of the most successful DIY artists of recent times. This show takes her second album and does something quite specific with it, rather than just playing it back as it was recorded.
Because the whole album is being reimagined for two clarinets, the songs will sound different from the versions on the record. It's the full album performed live, so you'll hear the songs in the order they appear, just with this new arrangement running through them. It's a good way to hear a record you might already know from a different angle, and it's a bit of a departure from a standard gig.
