Deep Forest bring their classic blend of ethnic, electronic and jazz to The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, for an over-18s show.
Deep Forest play The Voodoo Rooms on Saturday 24 October, their first Edinburgh date in some time. The set is a live mix of high-tempo electronic and jazz alongside ambient and relaxing material, and they describe it as moving between the two while keeping that classic Deep Forest sound.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the project started in the early 1990s in the north of France with the idea of mixing ethnic music with electronic and jazz sounds. Their self-titled debut album included the smash single 'Sweet Lullaby', which made them an instant worldwide name; across subsequent releases they sold 10 million albums. They received a Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album and later won the award with Boheme.
Along the way they collaborated with Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock and Aluna Wade, wrote music for several films and remixed artists such as Youssou N'Dour. In 2005 Michel Sanchez left to pursue a solo career, and Eric Mouquet continued under the Deep Forest name, releasing Deep Africa and Deep India. That's the project that'll be on stage here: the same name and the same blend of ethnic, electronic and jazz sounds that defined the early records.
