Dave Finnegan, aka Mickah Wallace, fronts a band of professional musicians playing soul and rhythm and blues classics in the style of The Commitments.
Dave Finnegan's The Commitments play Ghillie Dhu on Monday 3 May, with doors opening at 5:00pm. It's a night of soul and rhythm and blues, with Finnegan fronting a band of professional musicians. The set is built around soul classics: 'Mustang Sally', 'In the Midnight Hour', 'Chain of Fools', 'Try a Little Tenderness' and 'Take Me to the River' are all on the list.
Finnegan performs under the name Mickah Wallace, stepping into the shoes of the character from the film The Commitments. He's shared stages worldwide with Edwin Starr, James Brown, BB King, Dennis Edwards of The Temptations and Dan Aykroyd, and critics have praised his soulful voice. The evening is billed as high-energy and foot-stomping, keeping the legacy of Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett alive.
The Edinburgh date is part of the show's first mini tour of Scotland, with stops also at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline, Oran Mor in Glasgow and The Dundee Music Hall. Ghillie Dhu itself is a traditional Scottish bar and restaurant in the West End that celebrates Scotland's larder, serves its own Ghillie Ale and runs the Burly Ceilidh Club.
