Curtain-making Workshop

Artisan Stitch is running a curtain-making workshop on Friday 13 November, a full day's class that takes you from start to finish. The idea is simple: you come in with the desire to make your own curtains and leave with the skills and confidence to do it properly, rather than just winging it. It's a one-day session, so you'll be getting stuck in from morning until late afternoon.

If you're not familiar with the studio, it's run by Jen Skedd, a degree-trained textile designer and lifelong sewist. She's got an HND in Stitched Textiles and Fashion from Edinburgh College and a Textile Design BA (Hons) from Heriot Watt University in Galashiels, the former Scottish College of Textiles, which is still well-known for its textiles work. In her final year, she sold knitwear designs to the Italian fashion label Valentino, and she still exhibits with the Embroiderers Guild and Group Twelve Textile Artists. Artisan Stitch itself started back in 2015 in the coastal village of Cockenzie, East Lothian, before moving to its current home in St Margaret's House.

They describe themselves as Scotland's leading sewing school, and the range of classes they run covers a lot of ground: beginners sewing, dressmaking, craft and soft furnishings, plus evening, kids and online workshops. This curtain-making class sits within the craft and soft furnishings strand, which they pitch as creative, relaxed and surprisingly achievable for people who love sewing but don't fancy making clothes. It's a good spot if you're more interested in the things you put around your home than the things you wear.

The workshop runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday 13 November at Artisan Stitch, Studio 6.03A, St Margaret's House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh EH7 6AE.
