Beginner crocheting workshop led by Leigh Thornton to make practical baskets, with all materials provided.
Leigh Thornton is running a crochet baskets workshop at the Library at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street by IHG on Saturday 16 January, from 10:00 to 12:30. It's built for absolute beginners, so you don't need to have ever picked up a hook before to join in.
Over the morning, Thornton takes you through the very basics of crocheting and how to follow a pattern, teaching useful stitches and techniques as you go. The end result is a small basket — the kind of handy, on-trend thing you can use for toiletries, hair accessories, keys, or loose change, or give as a handmade gift. Thornton frames crochet as an incredibly mindful and relaxing craft that does good for wellbeing, and the session is as much about the process as it is about the finished object.
All materials are provided, so you can just turn up. If you'd rather bring your own, you'll need a ball of 5mm braided cotton cord, a 10mm hook, scissors, and a stitch marker. A hot drink is included in the ticket, and refunds are available up to seven days before the session. The page also points to other Crochet Club workshops run by Thornton, so if this one doesn't fit your schedule, there are more to choose from.
