60-minute workshop to design and make your own Harris Tweed handbag at Islander, with a traditional Scottish tasting platter.
Islander is running a Harris Tweed® handbag workshop at their Islander Workshop on East Market Street, and it's a proper hands-on one. The whole thing takes an hour, and you spend it designing and making your own bag from scratch. You start by picking the bag's colour, then the Harris Tweed® cloth lid, the strap, and the accessories, and from there you build it using the tools they provide. Once it's finished, you get to show it off outside the Islander shop under the floral entrance before taking it home as a 'Made in Scotland' souvenir.
It's not just about the making, either. The instructors share the history of the Harris Tweed brand as you work, so you leave knowing a bit more about the cloth itself. There's a social side to it too: Islander uses the craft to preserve and celebrate the Harris Tweed heritage of the Outer Hebrides, and they support family-focused causes through partnerships like their Barnardo's workshop experience.
