Relaxed craft workshop to make a framed wall hanging using the Japanese fabric picture-making technique of kinusaiga, with drinks and pub food discounts.
Splat! are running a Kinusaiga workshop at O'Neills Edinburgh on Sunday 8 November, from 3pm to 5pm. If you've never heard of it, Kinusaiga is the Japanese art of fabric picture-making. The session is two hours long, and the whole point is that you don't need any sewing skills or prior experience to get something finished.
Here's how it works: you pick your own fabrics and pre-cut designs, then poke the fabric pieces into grooves in a thick board to build a framed wall hanging. Because you're working with the board rather than a needle and thread, there's no stitching involved. You'll leave with a completed piece of art for your wall, and you'll have done it all from scratch.
The workshop is run by Splat!, which is just two friends, Debby and Jane. They both graduated with Fine Art degrees — Sculpture and Painting — and they specialise in silver and resin jewellery making and feltmaking. They're the ones leading the session, so you're in safe hands regardless of where you're starting from.
