Christmas concert with carols and music from the Salvation Army musicians and singers of Edinburgh at St Cuthbert's.
The Salvation Army are bringing their Christmas concert to The Parish Church of St Cuthbert on Thursday 3 December, with musicians and singers coming together from across Edinburgh. It's a night of familiar carols and music, and the evening also gives a platform to those working among the homeless in the city.
If you've never been inside, St Cuthbert's is tucked away in the trees at the western end of Princes Street Gardens. It was built between 1892 and 1894, and when they dug the foundations, they found traces of at least six earlier church buildings on the site. The interior has a basilica layout with an apse and rounded vault, and the coloured stone gives it a rich, warm feel with a Byzantine air. Inside you'll also find the 1894 Communion Table, the 1897 marble and alabaster Pulpit, and ceiling paintings by Hope and Moira.
