Free evening of a short film screening, small-group discussions, a community meal and music to mark Black History Month Scotland.
SCOREscotland and The Welcoming Association are coming together at WHALE Arts Agency on Thursday 29 October to mark Black History Month Scotland. It's a joint evening, with both organisations hosting it as part of the wider celebrations across the country.
The night is built around a few different things running one after another. There's a short film screening, small-group discussions, a community meal, and music. The organisers describe it as a chance to meet new friends, have eye-opening conversations and share a meal, so it's as much about the people you'll be sitting with as the things on the programme.
It helps to know who's behind it. The Welcoming is an independent charity (SC041952) and a company limited by guarantee (SC398913) that runs a range of support services for newcomers to Scotland. That includes English classes, friendship groups, advice surgeries and a Community Fridge. The evening sits within that wider work, and the community meal is a good example of the kind of thing they do.
