Bimonthly social gathering for people with lived experience of dementia, their families, friends and carers, with tea, a guest speaker or performer and a quiz.
Brew and Blether is back at the Festival Theatre on Wednesday 25 November, from 2pm to 3pm. It's a bimonthly social gathering run by Capital Theatres for people with lived experience of dementia, their families, friends and carers. The format is straightforward: companionship, chat and tea, with something extra each time—a guest speaker or performer one session, a quiz the next.
It's part of a wider dementia-friendly programme the theatre runs throughout the year. There's Tea and Jam, a family-friendly music-making session; Journeys Through Rhyme, which focuses on poetry and storytelling; and Together In Song, a singing session with the dementia-inclusive Forget Me Notes choir. The Comfy Ceilidh is another regular, and the whole thing is rounded out by the DementiArts magazine, a dementia-friendly podcast, focus groups with the dementia community and Care Home Tours that take the theatre out to care homes. The programme won an 'Excellence in Inclusivity' award at the UK Theatre Awards in 2023.

On the practical side, front-of-house staff undergo disability awareness and Dementia Friend training, and the venue offers limited accessible parking. The session runs in the Festival Theatre foyer at 13-29 Nicolson Street, EH8 9FT, and lasts about 75 minutes. It's free, but ticketed, so you'll need to book in advance online—and you'll need a ticket for every attendee, including any carers. That's Wednesday 25 November, 2-3pm.
