Four-hour guided embroidery workshop at The Edinburgh Sewcial Club to master colour blending with satin and long-and-short stitch.
The Edinburgh Sewcial Club is running a botanical embroidery workshop on Saturday 31 October, held at their studio in St Margaret's House, 151 London Road. It's a four-hour guided session, so you'll spend a good chunk of the day working through it rather than just dipping in and out.
The focus of the day is colour blending. You'll be working with satin stitch and long-and-short stitch, two of the staples for getting smooth, painterly transitions between threads. The goal is to leave with your own botanical piece, and you'll take home the fabric, thread, embroidery hoop and needle you used to make it, so you can keep stitching on your own time after the workshop wraps up.
For a bit of context, The Edinburgh Sewcial Club has been around since 2014. They started with evening and weekend classes in Meadowbank, teaching garment making, sewing machine skills, pattern cutting and embroidery to crafters of all ages and abilities. Since then, the repertoire has grown to include beading, upcycling, mending and even fleece mermaid-tail blankets, and the business remains women-owned. They keep their classes small to make sure there's plenty of one-to-one tutor time, and the studio provides the machines, shears and other equipment you'll need, along with tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going.
