Themed stand-up night hosted by Jay Lafferty, with a different line-up of top Scottish comics performing material written to fit the night's theme.
Bona Fide returns to The Stand Comedy Club on Thursday 22 October, and it's a bit of a milestone this time around: the night turns ten this year. If you've never been, it's one of the club's cult favourites, and the format is what sets it apart from your usual comedy night. The award-winning compère Jay Lafferty hosts, and he brings in a different line-up of top Scottish comics each time. The catch is that they can't just pull their usual set from the bag; they have to prove their worth by performing material written specifically to fit that night's theme.
Because of that, every show is a one-off. You get new themes and new faces every month, and the night is rounded out with mystery guests, prizes and parties. It's not the kind of thing you can just catch on a repeat loop—once the night is over, that particular combination of theme and line-up is gone. Over the years, the stage has seen the likes of Susie McCabe, Danny Bhoy, Daniel Sloss, Krystal Evans, MC Hammersmith, Christopher MacArthur Boyd and Marjoleine Robertson, so the standard stays high even when the comics are working to a brief.

The night also runs at the club's Glasgow venue, so it's a bit of a cross-city affair. If you can't make this one, there are further Edinburgh dates on 12 November and 3 December, and the whole thing is based at The Stand, 5 York Place, Edinburgh New Town EH1 3EB. Doors open at 19:00, the show starts at 20:00, and it runs for about 100 minutes.
