Edinburgh electro-folk collective Birdvox, with Sarah Hayes, Inge Thomson, Jenny Sturgeon and Charlotte Printer, headline Sneaky Pete's in Cowgate.
Birdvox play Sneaky Pete's on Friday 30 October, headlining the night in support of their debut album, Shamming The Drama. It's an Edinburgh electro-folk collective, and the line-up brings together four singers from different corners of the folk and indie scene: Sarah Hayes, founding member of Admiral Fallow; Inge Thomson, a longtime collaborator of Karine Polwart; Jenny Sturgeon, the SAY Award nominee and Salt House singer; and Charlotte Printer, who has performed with Altered Images and Joesef. Faith Eliott joins them as guest.
What they're working with is a wide stretch of languages. They sing in Scots, Shetland dialect, old Norn and English, and they describe their sound as distilling their individual influences into a single point of view. That point of view ranges from political disco and skewed-folk floor-fillers to avian electronica and hymns to humanity — a fair bit of ground to cover in one set. The night is built around Shamming The Drama, so you'll hear the new material front and centre.
