Guided photography walk along Leith Walk inspired by Harry Gruyaert, with drinks at the Joseph Pearce pub afterwards.
Beyond Colour is heading to Leith on Thursday 12 November, a guided photography walk that starts and ends around the shops of Leith Walk. It's part of a series of meetups that take their cue from Harry Gruyaert, the street photographer who treats colour as his main subject and whose approach has been described as 'reality through colour'.
The idea isn't to copy his style, though. Instead, you're encouraged to let the colourful things around you — clothes, shop windows, cars, shop fronts — act as the starting points for your pictures. It's less about a specific technique and more about letting the colours of the street dictate what you stop to photograph. The Leith Walk edition takes in the street's distinctive shop fronts and surroundings, so it's a good one if you enjoy the textures of the neighbourhood.
It's a guided walk, which means you'll be moving through the area with a group rather than out on your own. The route winds its way along the walk, and the whole thing wraps up with drinks at the Joseph Pearce pub on Elm Row around 2:30 pm, so there's a bit of a social side to it once the shooting is done.
