Beginner-friendly sewing workshop with The Edinburgh Sewcial Club to learn machine sewing basics and make a small project.
The Edinburgh Sewcial Club is running a Beginner's Sewing Class on Tuesday 27 October, from 10:30am to 3:30pm. It's a one-day workshop held at St Margaret's House, studio 5.10, 151 London Road, Edinburgh East EH7 6AE.
The morning is all about the basics of machine sewing. You'll learn how to thread the machine, wind and insert the bobbin, get a feel for different fabric qualities, and work through the various machine stitches. Once you've got those fundamentals down, the group moves on to a small project — something like an envelope cushion cover — so you leave with something you've actually made.
Class sizes are kept small, which means there's plenty of one-to-one time with the tutor. The session is built to give you the confidence to move on to the club's intermediate workshops and Garment Making Course later on. It suits all ages and experience levels, and the club suggests it as a gift idea for a partner, a parent or a child.
