Barbara Dickson marks what would have been the 80th birthday of Gerry Rafferty with a conversation with Nicola Meighan and a concert set with Nick Holland.
Barbara Dickson plays The Queen's Hall on Saturday 17 April 2027, one of two nights she's staging to mark what would have been the 80th birthday weekend of her dear friend, the Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty. The Edinburgh date follows a companion night at Paisley Town Hall, so it's a bit of a double-bill across the country rather than a single show.
Each evening is built as a double bill. The first half is an intimate conversation on stage with broadcaster Nicola Meighan, talking through Dickson's life and career, with a particular spotlight on her friendship and musical relationship with Rafferty. After the interval, she plays a full concert set accompanied by Nick Holland. It's two different kinds of evening in one: the first half is more about the stories and the people, and the second is a proper gig.
Knowing the two of them, the conversation should be a good place to start. Rafferty was one of Scotland's most acclaimed songwriters, and Dickson's connection to him goes back years, so hearing her talk about their friendship and the music they shared will be the real draw here. The concert set that follows is the other half of the night, with Nick Holland on accompaniment.

It's a long way off, but if you're a fan of either of them, it's worth keeping on the radar. The Queen's Hall is a great spot for this kind of thing — a room that works as well for a conversation as it does for a full set. Saturday 17 April 2027, The Queen's Hall, Edinburgh.
