Live show by Swedish pipe organ musician Anna von Hausswolff, melding tradition and experimentation, at The Queen's Hall.
Anna Von Hausswolff plays The Queen's Hall on Saturday 14 November, her only Edinburgh date this autumn. She's a Swedish musician and composer whose work is described as carving out space for the celestial and the transcendent to enter the modern world. It's a big, open-ended way of putting it, but it fits the sound she's built over the last decade.
Her breakthrough came with Ceremony back in 2012, and the releases since have cemented her reputation as an artist of unpredictable and vast creativity, melding tradition with experimentation. The pipe organ is her instrument of choice, and her sound plays with the ethereal qualities of breath, ranging from colossal, doom-laden rock songs to intimate organ pieces. It's that range that defines her: one moment it's a wall of sound that fills the room, the next it's something quiet and stripped back.
On the night, the bill is just her. The show is presented by 432 Presents and is restricted to over-14s, with under-16s required to be accompanied by an adult. It's a Saturday night in the city, and the venue is The Queen's Hall on Clerk Street.
