New material comedy night with up to five Scottish comedians, including visiting acts, at the cocktail bar Dragonfly.
Good Egg Comedy is running its new material night at Dragonfly on Thursday 5 November, and it's one of those long-running Edinburgh fixtures that's stayed easy on the pocket. The show is built around Scotland's comedy scene, with a resident compere introducing up to five acts each night. The draw here is that it's a new material night, so you're seeing comedians work through fresh jokes rather than a polished set they've done a hundred times. That mix usually brings in a good range of performers: some who've appeared on television and others road-testing material for national tours.
Dragonfly is one of the city's cocktail bars, and the comedy room holds around 42 people, so it's a small, close-knit space rather than a big theatre. The bar opens at 4pm, and the show itself usually runs from 8pm to about 10.15 or 10.30pm, which gives you plenty of time to get a drink in before the first act takes the stage. It's an over-18s night, so it's geared towards an adult crowd.

One of the things that sets this one apart is the price: entry has been held at £5 since 2024, which is rare for a night that's been running this long. It makes it a low-stakes way to catch a few different comics in one evening without spending much. If you're in town on Thursday 5 November, it's a straightforward mid-week option: £5 entry, 8pm start, over 18s only.
