A fictional, intimate play with music that imagines what might have happened behind the scenes during the making of the MGM classic 'Singin' in the Rain', featuring classic MGM music, songs and dance.
What a Glorious Feeling! opens at the Garner Galleria Theatre on November 7, 2026, and runs through April 4, 2027. It's a fictional, intimate play with music that imagines what happened behind the scenes during the making of the MGM classic Singin' in the Rain. The story is set at the studio where Gene Kelly begins work on the film, and it follows Kelly as he tries to keep his longtime collaborator Stanley Donen and his trusted assistant Jeanne Coyne on set despite their recent divorce and Coyne's lingering feelings for him. Meanwhile, their producer wrestles the studio for resources, and newly hired co-star Debbie Reynolds can't even dance.
The show leans on the music, songs and dance of Golden-era MGM and is staged in the intimate cabaret setting of DCPA Cabaret, a program of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts known for pairing high-quality musicianship with storytelling tailored for an up-close theatrical experience. Director and choreographer Piper Lindsay Arpan, making her DCPA debut, says the dancing will knock your socks off.
The cast features Kayleigh Bernier as Debbie Reynolds, Matthew Dailey as Gene Kelly, Drew Horwitz as Arthur Freed, David Otto as Stanley Donen, Leiney Rigg as Jeanne Coyne, and David Nehls as Kenny the Accompanist. Kira Wendland and Bob Hoppe serve as female and male swings, and David Nehls also acts as music director.
