A dazzling new production of The Who's rock opera TOMMY, featuring anthems like Pinball Wizard and I'm Free, as part of the 2026 national tour.
The Who's TOMMY comes to the Buell Theatre at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for a short run from October 16 to 18, 2026. It's a new production of the rock opera The Who put together in 1969, and it keeps the anthems that most people recognize: "Pinball Wizard," "I'm Free," "See Me, Feel Me," and "Sensation."
The story follows young Tommy Walker, who, after witnessing his father shoot his rival, becomes lost in the universe and finds himself propelled from reticent adolescent to celebrity savior by an innate knack for pinball. This version is reimagined by Tony Award-winning composer Pete Townshend and Tony Award-winning original director Des McAnuff. It runs about an hour and 40 minutes with no intermission and is recommended for ages 16 and older.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Jerry Ruiz, with scenic design by Raul Abrego, costume design by Raquel Barreto, lighting design by Carolina Ortiz Herrera, sound design by Melanie Chen Cole, and projection design by Alex Basco Koch and John Erickson. The show's history stretches back through the 1969 album, the 1975 film, the 1992 premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse, and the 1993 Broadway premiere; this 2026 national tour brings the current production to Denver.
