Tony Award-winning musical Once, with a live folk-rock score, based on the film by John Carney.
Once runs at the Wolf Theatre from April 2 to May 2, 2027, as part of the Denver Center Theatre Company's season. It's a Tony Award-winning musical based on the film written and directed by John Carney, with a folk-rock score performed live on stage by the cast. The story is set on the streets of Dublin and follows a heartbroken Irish songwriter who meets a Czech pianist; their bond over the course of one week evolves into a powerful, complicated love story. The production continues the company's tradition of emotionally resonant musicals that place storytelling and musicianship at the center of the theatrical experience.
Once holds a rare kind of record: it's the only musical to have won an Academy Award, a Grammy, an Olivier, and a Tony, taking home the 2012 Tony for Best Musical. The book is by Enda Walsh, with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and this production is directed by Chris Coleman. The show runs about 2 hours and 15 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.
The Wolf Theatre is the company's flagship stage and the largest of the four theatres in the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex, named after longtime benefactors Marvin and Judi Wolf. A 2021 renovation left it with a thrust stage and 610 seats, no more than 13 rows from the stage. It's located at 14th and Curtis in downtown's Arts Complex.
