A Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that weaves the mythic tales of Orpheus and Eurydice with those of Hades and Persephone to explore themes of love, poverty and climate change.
Hadestown plays the Buell Theatre from June 8 to 13, 2027, as part of its Broadway tour. The show is at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, at 14th and Curtis in the downtown Arts Complex. It's a love story that weaves together two mythic tales: the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone. Together, they touch on poverty, love, and climate change.
Singer-songwriter AnaΓ―s Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics, and book, and Rachel Chavkin directed it. The production has a long history behind it. The original sung-through version was staged in Barre and Vergennes, Vermont, in 2006, and Mitchell later turned it into a 2010 concept album. In 2012, she met Chavkin, who reworked the stage version with fifteen new songs and added dialogue. It premiered off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop on May 6, 2016, and opened on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 17, 2019.

That Broadway run earned it eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, and a 2020 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. A filmed version reached cinemas in 2026. The tour brings that same production to Denver for a short run. Tickets range from $40 to $200.
