An intimate first listen to Meshell Ndegeocello's album 'Synonym' at SHYBOY HI FI, a 21+ event.
Meshell Ndegeocello is at SHYBOY HI FI on Thursday, October 8, for an intimate first listen to Synonym. It's her third Blue Note album of reimagined classics, and this is one of the first chances to hear it in a room rather than through headphones. The session is presented by SHYBOY HI FI.
Synonym follows the same line as her previous Blue Note projects: taking well-known songs and reworking them into something different. This time around, the record brings in a wide range of collaborators. Chaka Khan, Cat Power, Lianne La Havas, Robert Glasper, and Brandi Carlile all appear across the album, so the voices you'll hear alongside Ndegeocello's come from across a few different musical worlds. Hearing it as a listening session means the music takes center stage, and you'll get to hear the whole thing from start to finish.
If you're not familiar with the project, the Blue Note run has been about taking classics and radically reimagining them, and Synonym is the third installment in that series. The collaborators—Khan, Cat Power, La Havas, Glasper, and Carlile—are a good indication of the ground the album covers.
