Concert by Denton, Texas indie rock and folk singer-songwriter Lady Winters at AM/FM Backyard.
Lady Winters plays AM/FM Backyard on Wednesday, October 7, at 9 PM. She's a singer-songwriter from Denton, Texas, who writes vulnerable indie-rock ballads drawn from personal experience. The set is her own, and she'll be performing with Allie Winters, Kate Stedman, and Allison Owens.
Her sound pulls from a few different places. She cites Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac as an influence, and you can hear that in the way her songs lean into the melodic, singer-songwriter tradition. Beside that, she looks toward Faye Webster and Alice Phoebe Lou, two artists known for a more laid-back, atmospheric approach to indie and folk. The result is a sound that sits somewhere between those two poles: the classic songwriting of Nicks and the more modern, textural indie of Webster and Lou. It's music that doesn't rush, and the ballads are the center of the set.
That foundation comes from her background in choir and theatre, which she credits with giving her a steady musical footing. It shows up in the way she handles her vocals and the way the songs are built. The songs themselves are personal, and she describes them as ballads drawn from her own experience, so they're less about a particular scene and more about the writing. With Allie Winters, Kate Stedman, and Allison Owens backing her, it's a full band on stage rather than a solo act.
