All-ages holiday musical based on Dr. Seuss, with 'You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch', narrated by Max the Dog.
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is coming to the Music Hall at Fair Park for a short run from November 25 to 29, 2026. It's presented by Broadway Dallas, formerly Dallas Summer Musicals, and it's a Broadway production that's been touring for 20 years. The show runs an hour and 25 minutes with no intermission, and it's recommended for all ages, so it works as a family outing.
The story follows the one you know: the Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas from the Whos. Max the Dog narrates as the Grinch goes about it. The musical leans on the original animated special, with "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" by Albert Hague and Dr. Seuss. The sets and costumes are by John Lee Beatty and Robert Morgan, and they're inspired by Seuss' original illustrations.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Matt August and co-directed and choreographed by Bob Richard, with original choreography by John DeLuca. It was originally created by four-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, with music and book by Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason. It's a record-setting Broadway sensation that broke box office records during two consecutive holiday engagements at New York's St. James and Hilton theatres, and has since reached more than 3 million theatregoers across 83 cities in 1,700 performances. The New York Times called it "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story," and Gannett described it as "A genius of a show! A total delight for both kids and adults."
