A youth concert by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra featuring works by Cziner, Beethoven, Stravinsky and others, conducted by Shira Samuels-Shragg.
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is bringing Forces of Nature: Music of Earth, Water, Wind and Fire to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Wednesday, January 27, and Thursday, January 28, 2027. It's a youth concert designed for kids, one of two programs the DSO puts on each year for students in grades PreK through 6. Shira Samuels-Shragg conducts.
The program pulls together a handful of pieces that each evoke a different element. For earth, there's White Rock Lake by Dallas-based composer Jon Cziner. Water comes through Britten's Storm from Four Sea Interludes and the first movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, the Pastoral. Wind is covered by Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee from The Tale of Tsar Saltan. And fire takes the lead in the latter half: Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries from Die WalkĂĽre, De Falla's Ritual Fire Dance from El amor brujo, and the finale of Stravinsky's The Firebird.
It's a broad mix of names—Beethoven and Stravinsky alongside a local composer—and the whole thing is built around the four elements, so it's easy to follow even if you're not usually one for the symphony. The orchestra is guided by Music Director Fabio Luisi, and the program is one of two youth concerts they stage every year for the younger crowd.
