Live show by the Nashville roots trio The Wood Brothers, with opening act Amelia Day, at Newport Music Hall.
The Wood Brothers play Newport Music Hall on Friday, November 13, presented by WCBE. The trio on stage is Oliver Wood, Jano Rix, and Chris Wood, with Amelia Day opening the bill.
If you're not familiar with the name, the band is built around brothers Chris and Oliver Wood, who spent fifteen years pursuing separate musical careers before coming together. Chris was already known as one-third of Medeski Martin & Wood, while Oliver's band, King Johnson, had built a following in the South. Drummer Jano Rix joined later as a permanent third member, and together they've grown into one of roots music's most revered acts, playing sold-out shows across North America, earning a Grammy Award nomination, and releasing nine studio albums. They hail from Nashville, Tennessee.
Paste calls them "masters of soulful folk," and that's a fair place to start. The set will draw from a deep catalog, and that includes their latest record, Puff of Smoke, which came out on August 1. Between the new material and the older songs, there's plenty to pull from for a full night.
