Screening of Mila Turajlić's documentary 'The Other Side of Everything' with the director introducing the film and leading a discussion, part of the Unorthodocs festival.
Mila Turajlić brings her film The Other Side of Everything to the Wexner Center for the Arts on Monday, October 26, at 4 PM. It's not just a screening: Turajlić will be there to introduce the film and lead a discussion afterward, so you'll get to hear from the director herself before the lights come up.
The screening is part of Unorthodocs, the Wexner Center's annual festival of creative nonfiction filmmaking, now in its 10th edition. The festival runs from October 22 to 26 and is part of the FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View. Unorthodocs has a specific format: every featured film shows on a single screen, usually with the filmmakers in attendance, which keeps things intimate. Curator Chris Stults describes the joy of the festival as discovering documentaries you might not have heard of yet but that everyone will be talking about during awards season.
There's a broader point the festival makes this year, too. The organizers are highlighting the precarious state of documentary distribution: last year, only two of the twelve essential films screened at Unorthodocs received even a modest national release. That positions the festival as one of the few ways to connect audiences with urgent, innovative films and the people who make them.
