Documentary by Sam Green about the oldest person alive, an Ohio premiere screening at the Wexner Center as part of ARTober.
Sam Green brings The Oldest Person in the World to the Wexner Center for the Arts on Sunday, October 25, for its Columbus premiere. It's part of the Unorthodocs 2026 film series and falls within the city's ARTober, so it's one of several things happening around town that month.
The documentary took ten years to film. Green has been fascinated by the Guinness Book of World Records since he was a kid, and this film follows him as he meets the people who hold the title of the oldest person alive. As he points out, it's a title that never lasts very long. What starts as a portrait of longevity turns into a meditation on the passage of time, the randomness of life, and the joy of being alive. Critics have called it "surprisingly, almost confrontationally life-affirming."
Green is a regular at the Wexner Center. He's performed live documentaries there recently, like 32 Sounds (2022) and A Thousand Thoughts (2018), both with the Kronos Quartet. His 2004 feature The Weather Underground was Academy Award-nominated and made with support from the Wex's Film/Video Studio. He was also included in the 2019 Whitney Biennial and admitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2014.
