The Menzingers play Newport Music Hall on Friday, November 6, with Hot Water Music and Weakened Friends opening. It's a stop on their Everything I Ever Saw North American tour, and the lineup brings together three bands from the punk and melodic hardcore world on one bill.
Everything I Ever Saw is The Menzingers' eighth album, and they describe it as a new era in their career. It follows 2023's Some Of It Was True and was recorded in the band's new Port Richmond studio with producer Will Yip, who also helmed After the Party in 2017 and Hello Exile in 2019. The songs draw on the personal changes the members have lived through: vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett married and became a father, while fellow vocalist and guitarist Tom May went through a divorce. The opening track, "Nobody's Heroes," was written about him.
Across eleven songs, the record ranges from "Chance Encounters," which they call the heaviest they've put out in a long time, to "Better Angels," whose title comes from Abraham Lincoln's First Inaugural Address. Two decades in, the band says it's the most connected they've ever felt to what they're doing.
